Decorative Yard Flags for Easter

Spring is here and Easter will be soon. I love decorating for Easter.  Coming out of the dreary winter the bright colors of Easter are so welcoming. Easter Garden Flags offer all those colors and more, coming in a wide variety of themes from traditional to whimsical.  FlagsandGifts.com invites you to see what we offer.

This View of Easter Applique Garden Flag is one of my favorites.  It is beautifully unique and eye catching.

Here is another Easter Yard Flag with the a more traditional religious theme., He is Risen Easter Garden Flag. It shows an Easter morning sunrise over three crosses.

One the more whimsical side we have decorative flags with Easter bunnies. Easter bunnies are portrayed in all sorts of ways and are so much fun on flags.  This holiday flag shows a sweet bunny popping out of an Easter egg.  This is a nice applique flag called Easter Egg Bunny Applique Garden Flag.  This flag would be a great addition to your Easter decor.

Another great flag if a bunny flag is what you want, is the Painter Bunny Easter Garden Flag. This Easter flag has been very popular over the years. It is such a lovely scene full of colorful flowers and an adorable rabbit worn out from decorating so many eggs.

So choose the flag that you like best. They are all wonderful, you just can't go wrong.

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful Easter and please visit our website at FlagsandGifts.com

We look forward to hearing from you.

The Great Backyard Bird Count starts in just a couple days. Watching our backyard birds has become a beloved pastime and hobby for many of us. My love of birds is reflected in decorations both inside and outside my home. Many of my favorite garden flags have bird themes. They come in a wide variety from whimsical to beautiful original artwork. They look so pretty next to our pond where the birds love to bathe and drink. We keep running water in the pond in the winter. This is so important as water sources freeze and become more scarce.

This Cardinal Home Sweet Home Garden Flag is one of my absolute favorite decorative yard flags.  It would be suitable for any time of year.  Looking at it this flag might make a good personalized flag, what do you think?  At the bottom it could say the family's last name.

If you've snapped a picture of a bird you are proud of, purchase our "Design your own Garden Flag" and we'll put it on a flag for you to display and enjoy.

Whether you participate in the Backyard Bird Count this year or not.  It is important we do what we can to protect our backyard treasures.  There are lots of resources online as to best practices when it comes to bird baths and feeders. Most importantly, just take time to enjoy them.

Decorative Flags for November

This time of year is such a busy time.  Halloween is now over and the abundance of fall festivals is decreasing as the holidays quickly approach.  It is now time to take down the Halloween Garden Flag and choose a more appropriate decorative yard flag for this time of year.

It is a good idea to have a base Fall Garden Flag that can be displayed all the way from the first of October to December such as this Autumn Leaves Applique Garden Flag.  This is a very nice high quality double applique flag. Or our Custom Monogram Flag, The Magic of Autumn.

If you are someone that likes to change out your yard flags frequently you can add to your collection holiday flags for both Halloween and Thanksgiving to switch out as these holidays come and go.  Thanksgiving Garden Flags usually don't stay up very long but they are still fun to have.  There is this nice garden flag by Carson called Gratitude Cornucopia  and our Custom Thanksgiving Flag called We are Grateful for Many Things, this custom flag is a great project to do with your kids asking them to list things they are grateful for to add to this personalized flag.

Once Thanksgiving is over your fall flag could possibly be put up again for a short time.  It depends on where you live and how much winter has progressed in your region.  But after a week at the most, it is probably time to put away your fall flags till next year and move on to winter and Christmas yard flags.

Decorative Halloween Yard Flags

Halloween is just around the corner and we are taking inventory of our Halloween Garden Flags  and Halloween House Flags.  I can still remember as a child going trick or treating door to door. Back then we didn't worry about if we knew the people or not.  Neither did we worry about what was in our bags.  Our parents didn't inspect our goods before we could eat them.  We just came home, marveled over our spoils and down the hatch they went.  That included homemade cookies, cupcakes, unwrapped candy in baggies all sorts of dangerous stuff.  Those were different times.

Although people are much more cautious today as far as trick-or-treating goes, enthusiasm for the holiday has not waned one bit.  Outdoor Halloween decor seems to get more sophsticated and abundant each year.  One of my neighbors this year had a yard full of extravagant Halloween decorations before the end of September.  Its fun to see the creative ways people express their love for the season.  My favorite are the handmade items; stuffed scarecrows and witches and pumpkins carved with imagination. I also enjoy, of course, seeing all the different decorative Halloween yard flags.  There is such a wide variey of Halloween flags to choose from, and if you are too busy to do a lot of decorating this year, a Halloween Garden Flag displayed in your yard is a quick way to show you are in the spirit of the fun that this holiday brings.

Here are some decorative flags we are offering this year for Halloween.  We even have a few that can be personalized and a couple that are Custom Made Garden Flags.

Personalize Your Summer Garden Flag

Summer is such a wonderful time of year and the variety of summer garden flags out there help to express that.  To me decorative flags help you express your personality and interests. Depending on what you enjoy doing most in the summer there are beach flags, bird flags, art flags that show beautiful flowers and garden flags with gardening themes.

To express yourself even further, why not go with a personalized flag or custom garden flag.  A personalized summer garden flag makes your flag one of a kind.  It can be personalized with first names, last name or a monogram.  Some even allow more expression with full lines of text that can be customized to suit your taste.

We have a couple custom summer flags that are personalized with your name such as our Flip Flop Monogram Flag and our Ladybug Welcome Garden Flag.

We also personalize some of the garden flags and house flags that come from your favorite brands.  Some of the personalizations are free, some require an additional fee.

This Welcome to the Lake garden flag by Custom Decor is very popular for personalizing.  We also have a beach flag and pool party flag that you can add text and a name to.

We are always open to ideas for personalizing.  If you see a flag on our site that we do not offer with a personalization please contact us and we will see if it is possible.

Celebrating Birds with Decorative Yard Flags

We are well into spring now and as it slowly turns to summer, it is a busy time for our backyard birds.   It is a great time to show your love of birds by displaying one of the many great decorative bird flags that are available.

We have so many birds nesting in our yard right now.  I enjoy watching the baby birds as they hop around clumsily so unaware and waiting for mom or dad to return with food. Thats why I love our Tweet Tweet Applique Bird Flag , which we carry as a garden flag or house flag.

This adorable applique yard flag depicts a family of birds in their nest after a baby has just hatched.

Another of my favorite bird flags is the Squirrel Dilemma Garden Flag by Carson.  This is a humorous flag which depicts the constant battle at the birdfeeder of squirrel versus bird.

The Cardinal Applique Spring Garden Flag is a heavy double applique flag.  It is beautifully sewn depicting a cardinal on the branch of a blooming dogwood branch.  This is a high quality flag that will hold up to the outside elements.

These are just a sampling of the great decorative birds flags you can find.  Come see what we have to offer at Custom Flags and Gifts.

Enjoy your birdwatching!  We sure will.

Personalize your Valentine's Day Garden Flag

When it comes to personalizing items for a special occasion or holiday, Valentine's Day should be at the top of the list.  Nothing is more personal than expressing love.

A personalized garden flag is a great way to do that.  With one of these decorative flags in your yard you could tell the world you have a new love in your life, or reinforce how you feel about that one special person thats been in your life a long time. It's like putting your Valentine Card on a flag.

Of course the personalizations are optional, there are plenty of Valentine's Day yard flags that are just as fun with or without the personalization.  The choice is yours.

Happy Valentine's Day and thank you for reading.

Let it Snow Decorative Yard Flags

The holidays are over and it is time to take down the holiday yard flags.  We are now facing those

remaining weeks of winter.  In my mind, those weeks are dreaded.  I am not a fan of cold weather.  I tend to avoid going outside and look forward to warmer days.  On the other hand , I do try to be a cheerful person so make an effort to pull myself out of my funk.  I get involved in projects and am famous for having several going at once.  Usually at least one craft project, I pull out an afghan I have been knitting for years, paint and redecorate a room in our house and last but not least decide on what decorative yard flags I want to put out for the winter.

The winter landscape does tend to be a bit dreary, I always hope for those rare southern Virginia snowstorms to brighten things up.  Since snow is so rare here I favor a winter flag that features snow in some way.  There are so many to choose from.  Decorative flags that say "Let it Snow" are very popular.  I also love a good snowman garden flag.  Some of these can also become a personalized flag.

So as I say Happy New Year to you, I would also like to wish you a happy a cheerful winter.

The Miracle of Snowflakes

As I was trying to come up with some new winter garden flags and had decided I wanted to design a snowflake monogram flag I started scanning the web for inspiration.  I came across a website about a most incredible man whom I am surprised is not more widely known.  His name is Wilson A Bentley otherwise known as "Snowflake Bentley"  This wonderful quote by him from his website http://snowflakebentley.com/index.htm got my attention.

"Under the microscope, I found that snowflakes were miracles of beauty; and it seemed a shame that this beauty should not be seen and appreciated by others. Every crystal was a masterpiece of design and no one design was ever repeated., When a snowflake melted, that design was forever lost. Just that much beauty was gone, without leaving any record behind."
Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley 1925

He captured over 5000 snowflakes and photographed them.  It was he who came to the conclusion that no two snowflakes are alike.  Do check out the website for lots of wonderful information and gifts pertaining to snowflakes.

I can remember as a child catching snow on my mittens and trying to study an individual flake.  They are truly very magical.  This decorative yard flag is in honor of all those little miracles.

Back to School Garden Flags

As Labor Day quickly approaches we are nearing the end of another summer.  In many parts of the country Back to School decorative flags are already displayed in front yards and children are back in the classroom.  We are among some of the more traditional areas that don't go back till after Labor Day so there is still time to purchase a garden flag or house flag to celebrate the milestone.

We have some great flags available:

Personalizing Garden Flags

We just received a new shipment of summer garden flags.  As I am choosing which flags would make nice personalized flags, I am again researching the proper usage of last names in personalizations.    Do you use possessive or plural?  Is the decorative flag referring to The Smith's house so you make the name possessive? or is it a declaration that there is more than one "Smith" here therefore putting "The Smiths".   Then there is the problem with some names that end in "s" they can sound and look rather awkward when pluralized such as the Edwards becoming the Edwardses.

I have been doing personalizations for quite a few years now between my embroidery business and our garden flag venture. To simplify and remove any question I have found adding "family"  the last name helps to take away any doubts and makes the personalization sound more natural.  Putting "The Davis Family" on a flag sounds much better to most people than the "The Davises".  There are some decorative yard flags that could really benefit from a personalization but have limited space and on those have to opt for the last name only.  I have learned in those cases to ask the customer to write their name exactly as they would like it to appear.  Proper or not, I have found some people are not happy with the way their name looks or sounds in the plural.

As to whether to use  the last name in a possessive or plural form, possessive does work if you add "House" or "Getaway" or anything along those lines.  We have a new  Lake Garden Flag that is a good example.  We offer personalization of the last name

Personalized flags are a lot of fun and make your flag unique and a one of a kind. We have lots of flags that can be personalized. Come see us at www.FlagsandGifts.com .  If you see a flag that is not listed for personalization but you would like it to be, just let us know.  We will do our best to accommodate.

Here is a few of the House Flags and Garden Flags we carry that can be personalized.

Decorative Yard Flags - For the Birds

We had the privilege over the last few weeks of watching a pair of House Wrens in action.  From a window in our house we have a perfect up close view of one of our birdhouses.  Several weeks ago we watched as a pair of house wrens started busily bringing building materials , they worked tirelessly.  As time went on we assumed they had layed and were setting on eggs.  Eventually we starting hearing lots of little tweets that started out very small and weak and gradually grew stronger and louder.  Finally we were able to see their little eyes and beaks, but mostly beaks.

You could look out into the birdhouse and see nothing but opened mouths.

Hungry baby House Wren

Again the mom and dad worked long and hard all day long feeding what we finally figured were four mouths.

Then the time came to leave home and again we were lucky enough to be able to witness them leaving the safety of there home to venture out in the dangerous and huge outside world.

There are  many garden flags and house flags that display the wonderful world of birds.  By displaying these decorative yard flags you promote awareness of their beauty and remind people to help and protect these delicate yet resourceful creatures.

The Birch Tree Songbirds garden flag by Custom Decor shows many different breeds of birds in all there gloriour color.

Monogram Garden Flags

A monogram in its strictest terms is two or more letters, usually someone's initials, that are interwoven in a way to create one design.  Most of us also include any display of initials used for decorative or labeling uses.  Initials that are listed in any way interwoven or not and even just one letter that represents a first or last name initial.

As an embroiderer for many years I have monogrammed purses, shirts, baby clothes and over the last few years have been introduced to monogram decorative yard flags.  These garden flags come in many themes and designs and are available for all the different seasons.  Most monogram flags display a single initial.  Some also spell out the name that initial represents and works it into the design.  I have also seen some decorative monogram flags that use the traditional 3-letter intertwined monogram.  In these monograms the initial of the last name is larger and in the middle.

At Custom Flags and Gifts, all our monogram flags are ones we have designed ourselves and print in our shop.  This gives us the freedom to offer unique products that are not offered anywhere else.  Here is a sampling of what we have:
