Helping to Keep Wild Birds Healthy

I very much enjoy wild birds.  I have lots of vintage bird prints hanging in home and of course lots of my favorite garden flags and house flags are decorative bird flags. We try to cater to birds in our back yard.  We have cardinals that sit on the powerlines overhead that I swear are fussing at me until I put out food.  My favorite are the bird baths, we keep 3 or 4 full at all times.  I love to watch them splash around in the water.  They look like they are having such fun.
While feeding and offering the bird baths are great fun for us.  I started reading recently about the drawbacks of this after a couple years ago when House Finches started showing up at our feeders with a crusty coating that was affecting their eyes.  I found out it is caused by bacteria that is often picked up at feeders and bird baths.  It is so very important to keep these clean.  Bird droppings and molding seed contribute to this bacteria.  Cleaning feeding and watering containers and the area around them, including picking up old seed from the ground, helps to prevent the spread of all the contagious diseases birds carry.  Here is some good information and tips from The Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Patriotic Garden Flags for Fourth of July

The Fourth of July is quickly approaching and its time to hang your American Flag if its not out already.Then its time to get out your patriotic garden flags and house flags or if you don't have any, there is still time to order new flags.  This year the the Fourth of July lands on a Friday which makes it perfect for long weekends and celebrations.  This federal holiday also know as Independence Day commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. So many Decorative Summer Yard Flags

Probably the place most people display their decorative flags is in their front yard, close to the road by their driveway or mailbox.  This way it is easily visible for all who go by.  When I walk in my neighborhood I do enjoy seeing these eclectic lawn decorations.  Another popular place to put garden flags is in your garden.  They can add a lovely accent when the flag is of a garden related theme.

One of my favorite gardening related themes for yard flags is garden critters such as butterflies, dragonflies, frogs, etc.  These flags come in such a variey, ranging from humorous ones that make you smile to beautiful art flags that are so pleasing to look at. 

I am a big fan of frogs.  Artists portray frogs in ways that always make me smile.  So I do love good frog flags .

Summertime Beach Garden Flags

Spring was a long time coming but now we are in June already and its apparent summer is very quickly approaching.  Pretty soon it will be time to replace our decorative spring flags with summer garden flags.

Nothing says summer quite like the beach does.  There are lots of decorative summer flags with a beach theme.  You can take these with you to your week at the beach, display them at your own beach house or if you live in Kansas and were simply wishing you were at the beach, there is nothing wrong with putting a beach flag in your yard to give it that summer feeling.  Beach flags are very representative of summer as they portray that "laid back and having fun" feeling the season is known for.

Celebrating Birds with Decorative Yard Flags

We are well into spring now and as it slowly turns to summer, it is a busy time for our backyard birds.   It is a great time to show your love of birds by displaying one of the many great decorative bird flags that are available. 

We have so many birds nesting in our yard right now.  I enjoy watching the baby birds as they hop around clumsily so unaware and waiting for mom or dad to return with food. Thats why I love our Tweet Tweet Applique Bird Flag , which we carry as a garden flag or house flag.
