Decorative Winter Flags for your Yard

Christmas is almost here.  It's been a whirlwind of time through fall and into the holidays, both in my business and personal lives.  I hear many people talk about how busy life is for them this time of year.  It is no wonder some of us just let time pass and haven't changed out our decorative yard flag since fall.  Luckily there are lots of lovely Winter Garden Flags and Winter House Flags we can display that can stay up through the holidays and into spring.

Lots of decorative winter flags of course have a snow theme, many say Let it Snow.  Birds are also a popular subject like the Winter Birdhouses Garden Flag or House Flag.  Cardinals especially look beautiful in a snow scene on a decorative winter flag.  So once all your shopping is done and presents are wrapped, take time to get something for yourself and choose a decorative winter garden flag or house flag at FlagsandGifts.com.

The Winter Garden

I'm afraid winter is not my favorite time of year.  I feel the cold weather go straight through to my bones and tend to be more tense and less active.  I miss my long walks at the park and working in my garden.  Yesterday I decided to make an effort to kick the winter blues and get outside more, for goodness sake, I own an abundance of coats and a pair of long johns, so put them on and get out there.
There are lots of  things that can be done in your garden even in the winter.  First and foremost, of course, is to put out a new winter garden flag for an instant cheering up.

Now its time to get our hands dirty. This is the time to get rid of all the dead debris.  This will help with insect control so they can't winter over as easily. Plus, a nice clean garden is just much more pleasing to look at.  Adding some sort of garden décor this time of year also helps make your view more merry.  Decorative garden flags are of course the first on the list of easy versatile garden décor.

There are lots of sites online that sell all kinds of decorative items for your outdoor décor.  Browsing these sites can be another fun winter activity when you are ready to come in to the warmth of your home.

Happy winter gardening and thanks for reading.

Cheering up a Winter Yard

The holidays are gone and so are the dazzling light displays, lovely wreaths and eclectic decorative Christmas flags.  The winter yard is not usually a cheery one and unless you are an avid gardener that has planned ahead with camellias and other winter friendly shrubs, a winter yard can often times use some help.

snow couple garden flagWinter garden flags are an easy solution.  Winter yard flags come in many designs and their color and subject matter will draw your eyes to them and away from the drabness of the flower beds.   Snowmen garden flags are always a fun choice like this Snow Couple Garden Flag that can also be a personalized flag.

There is also this Let it Snow Garden Flag that is a high quality double applique flag that will hold up to the wicked winter weather.

For something totally unique there are Custom Winter Flags.  This is a Snowflake Monogram Flag but there are many available from a variety of companies.

cardinal and holly house flagFor those that prefer, there are also Winter House Flags which are the larger size of the decorative flags like this Cardinal and Holly House Flag that can also become a personalized flag.

Along with the decorative winter flags, depending on where you live there are also great amazingly hearty plants and evergreens that can add beauty to your yard during the cold weather.  I found this great site for the United States National Arboretum and it has a handy zone map that will help you find what plants are winter hardy for your area.  In our area, pansies are used a lot this time of year. It always amazes me that for such a pretty and delicate looking flower they are really very tough.

These are just a few ideas to liven your winter landscape.  There are so many things you can do.  If you have any ideas you would like to share, please do.  We may come up with a few more ourselves in a future post.

Happy New Year to you all.

Winter garden flags

The holidays are nearing to an end.  All the Christmas decorations and garden flags will soon be taken down and put away till next year.  It is sort of a melancholy task putting things back to "normal" and fearing after the flurry of holiday activities, things might seem a bit dull.  I always plan lots of projects to keep me busy during those slow dreary winter months.  There is always a room in my house that needs painted and a new item I want to work on for the store and will look ahead at what new decorative flags we will be buying for the coming holidays and seasons.  We also need to pick out a winter garden flag to replace the Santa flag in the front lawn.  There are many to choose from.  See some of the great winter garden flags and house flags we have to offer.  If you like personalized flags we have many to offer.  You can visit us at www.CustomFlagsandGifts.com   All our Christmas Flags are 30% off until January 15th.

Winter Garden Flags

A winter garden flag is a great way to brighten those dreary winter days. Especially  a nice Cardinal Winter Flag with their beautiful red color.

We faithfully feed the birds on our deck.  I love watching them through our back window.  One of my favorites is the cardinal.  I enjoy them anytime of year , but especially in the winter.  Their vivid red color helps to brighten those gray chily days.  Many times I look at our feeders and it reminds me of a Christmas card with the variation of birds and the color of the Cardinal popping out.  I like that they are our state bird here in Virginia.

Yard decorations

When I am out walking in my neighborhood, besides garden flags, I also like to look at people's yard decorations.  I saw the cutest thing the other day, I thought it was so original.  I came back and looked it up on the internet and I , apparently, was one of the few that had never seen it done before.  It was a snowman made from pumpkins.  I will say this one was a little different than any of the others I saw online. Not only was it cute, but what a great way to use uncarved pumpkins left over from the autumn holidays.  This snowman was three pumpkins painted white of graduated size with its face and buttons painted black.  If you are also among the few that haven't heard of this just search "pumpkin snowman" and you'll see a great variety.

Snowmen and of course Snowladies are so lovable.  We don't get much snow around here, so to see a snowman  it usually does have to be in the form of a decoration or on a winter garden flag. These garden flags can decorate your yard all winter long and one of our Snowmen Garden flags can even be personalized. Come see what we have at Custom Flags and Gifts
