Fall time is Pumpkin Time

Nothing says fall quite like pumpkins, they are everywhere this time of year.  There are pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin muffins just to name a few.  I'm not complaining, I love just about anything with pumpkin in it.

People make such creative fall decorations and Jack-O-Lanterns.  They're not just for carving anymore.  They paint them, use decals, wrap them in cloth, use rhinestones, googley eyes and the list goes on.  I've wasted many an hour browsing the internet looking at all the different ways people decorate with pumpkins.  Here is an article of 45 Pumpkin Decorating Projects from Midwest Living. 

 I also enjoy all the fall garden flags with pumpkins on them.  There are so many nice ones.  The Pumpin Welcome Applique Fall Garden Flag above is one of my favorite with the blackbird and large sunflower.  There is also the Autumn Wagon Applique Flag and Pumpkin Birdhouse Autumn Flag to name a few.  I haven't had a lot of time this fall to do much with pumpkins myself, even though I had grand plans.  For right now, I'll just settle with a nice decorative yard flag or two with the orange symbol of fall to add color to my outdoor autumn decor.

So what is applique?

Having sewn all my life and being into crafting , just like anyone well versed in an activity, it is such a big part of your world, you forget not everyone knows or understands what certain things are or means.  In the garden flag world applique plays a big part.  Many flag people prefer the applique flags because of their bold simplicity and durability if its quality work. 

One definition of applique that I saw, described it as ornamental needlework in which pieces of fabric are sewn onto a large piece of fabric to form pictures or patterns.  I thought that described it pretty well.  Usually a column of embroidery stiches borders each of the pieces .  Embroidery is often used throughout the applique design to add accents and details such as the pupil of an eye or stem of a flower. 

High quality applique is essential to ensure the pieces are properly sewn so that they don't fray and cause holes.  We buy a lot of our applique flags from Flagcenter in Richmond, Va.  The quality is outstanding and their designs are classic.  We recently got a new order of autumn flags and also some holiday flags, they were all the applique decorative flags.  Here are a couple of the fall garden flags we got.

Fall is such a beautiful time of year.  The leaves have turned to wonderful colors of red, gold and yellow. There are wonderful garden flags that emphasis those colors. Fall Garden Flags

We are well into fall now, and what a beautiful time of year.  Although I do love summer, there are things about it I do not miss when its gone, mostly mosquitoes, humidity and mowing the lawn.  I am trying to spend as much time outside as I can right now, enjoying the perfect weather.  One of my favorite things to do is to go on walks, mostly in my immediate and adjoining neighborhoods. As I am taking these walks I always enjoy seeing all the garden flags in peoples' yards.  They definitely add color and personality to the outside decor and there is such a variety of decorative flags they don't get monotonous and I rarely see the same one twice.  Lots of people use the holiday flags and seasonal flags and change them out faithfully.  The fall flags range from whimsical scarecrows to beautiful appliqued leaves.

Halloween Garden Flags and Halloween Decor

Halloween is just around the corner and its apparent as I walk in my neighborhood or drive around town.  So many yards have "decked the halls " with cleverness and creepiness.  I decided the other day I want to take my grandson for a walk one evening after dark, I know he would get a kick out of the lights and animated characters.  Some of the decorations I see I know are very costly but there is so much you can do to decorate for just pennies or even with stuff you probably already have around the house.

Martha Stewart has some great ideas some very easy to do, some taking a little more creative ability.  One of my favorites is using a pumpkin as an ice bucket.  I also found some cute and ideas from Country Living most of these ideas are very easy yet very clever.

Matching Fall House Flags and Garden FLags

The only thing better than a garden flag, is TWO garden flags.  When trying to add a splash of color to your yard with a decorative flag why not double the fun.  There are great matching fall flags that come in two sizes.  There's the House Flag or Standard Flag which is the larger size flag.  They generally measure about 28 x 40 inches.  Then the smaller size flags usually called Garden Flags, measure about 12 x 16 inches.
